cap_w.gif (829 bytes)elcome to my home page. Contained within are the following interesting facts (and maybe a few fables) concerning me,  my past, my present and maybe some insights to my future. Your future, after all, is in your children.

cap_h.gif (567 bytes)ere's a link to a Smith Family Genealogy page being maintained by one of my brothers. I am the youngest of 8 Smith kids (Gladys, Dick, Bob, Don, Pat, Herm, Harold and me). We lived on Natoli Avenue until shortly after I was born on February 16, 1950, at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich, New York. Guess Mom and Dad got tired of people saying, "There goes the neighborhood". We then moved to 2 Wheeler Avenue where we remained for a few years.

cap_i.gif (390 bytes) attended both Perry Browne and Gibson Elementary Schools in Norwich. Then it was on to the Junior High School on West Main Street. I attended the Norwich Senior High School, graduating in 1968. I have put together a website for the Class of 1968. Check it out.

cap_d.gif (640 bytes)uring high school I worked at the North Broad Street Victory Markets. After graduation I attended the State University of New York at Albany for a memorable 6 weeks! I returned to Norwich and the Victory Markets at the South Plaza. From there it was off to Norwich Mills for almost 6 years. I did a variety of things there. I met my first wife, Leanne Russock, while employed at "The Mill". We were married from 1972-1976 and had a son, David. After "The Mill" and a stint of unemployment, I found myself across the street (Midland) at The Community Workshop. What a fantastic experience that was; long hours, low pay, incredible people.

cap_i.gif (390 bytes)mproved the financial picture by becoming the Assistant Manager of the Rotary gas station on Rt. 12 North of Norwich. Worked in that business, both at that location and on Main Street in Johnson City, NY for a couple of years. Decided one day that is was time to return to college and get a degree. So, it was off to the State University of New York at Binghamton in September of 1979 to be a 29 year old Freshman.

cap_w.gif (829 bytes)alked out 4 years later with a degree in Computer Science and a fiancée, Paula Kuzmak. We were married in Germonds (Rockland County), NY on July 16, 1983 at the Presbyterian Church. We are currently (Winter 2004-2005) still in the process of divorcing.

cap_i.gif (390 bytes) began work with Raytheon Company in Bedford, MA on August 1. I did various things there while working on the Patriot Missile System for about 5 years. Paula worked there as well. Then it was off to GTE Government Systems for about a year. During these six years we lived in Lowell, MA for a couple of years with the balance in Merrimack, NH. In 1986 we were blessed with the arrival of our first child Emily, who was born in Nashua, NH.

cap_i.gif (390 bytes)n 1989 I had the chance to return to Upstate New York and work at General Electric Aerospace in Syracuse on the Seawolf Submarine. Paula, Emily and I lived in Cazenovia, NY during the next 5 years. Abigail (1989) and Joseph (1992) joined us, having been born at Crouse-Irving Hospital in Syracuse. Shortly after Joey was born and Martin Marietta bought GE Aerospace, I transferred to the company's Advanced Concepts Center in King of Prussia, PA. It took a few months, a couple of trips and lots of telephone calls, but we finally settled on Boyertown, mostly because of their excellent school system.

fter the ACC (after Lockheed bought the company), I went to Semaphore, then on my own, then to Vayda Consulting and back to being on my own, all the time doing the same basic work. I was self-employed for about 6 years. Currently  I am a software consultant, specializing in Object-Oriented Technology for Siemens Health Services in Malvern, PA.
